Experience/Backstory: From a young age, Athanasios was curious about the world, just like every kid, with the exception that he showed signs of great intelligence. He was always asking about anything and everything he saw whenever he would go out for a walk with either of his parents, and only needed to be told once, as his memory was like the unyielding black mountains in the edges of Edafos. Because he was born in the capital, he had the opportunity to be educated properly, and wholly.
A few years had passed and he had graduated a year early, being the best in every field, with the exception of fields requiring some physical activity, which he only was a little above the average of his age. Admittedly, he was a bit upset he wasn’t as good in physical activities, but he paid little mind to it. Seemingly at that time, that would have been the end for his education, and he himself believed that everything would become very dull, having nothing to do other than sight see. And that was the case for half a moon, that is until an unexpected visit took place, that affected his plans…
Someone was at the door. Athanasios hoped one of his parents would open, for he was busy figuring out his schedule for the rest of the month. If I do that, and finish by then.. following that route, I could squeeze in this as well, but what about this instead, no that would take too much time… he kept mumbling to himself, whilst planning everything in his head. Boom, Boom, Boom, the sound of banging on wood sounded again. His house seemed like it was vibrating from all the force. All thoughts instantly vanished from his head, and as fast as they were gone, they had already been replaced. In a fraction of a second, the questions flooding his mind were, Why did the entire house vibrate? How could anyone be that strong? How did the door not collapse? Why apply that much force? What could be so important? Why is he hasty? Who is this… He opened the door. A slender figure was in front of him, wearing a long white sleeveless high collar dress and white high heels. Her hair color was pure black, all tightly and neatly tucked in a bun in the back of her head, complimenting her small and smooth brownish swirly horns in the sides of her forehead. She had fair skin, with prism like scales in her shoulders, almost perfectly hidden under the dress. She had a single claw in a form of a long and sharp nail in her left index finger. Her eyes were brown, and had the prowess of a hawk looking for his prey. In a deep feminine and passive voice, she sharply asked "Are you Athanasios?"
Athanasios’ mother, -which was born in Vrondi- took the time to send some messages and contact some of her old acquaintances about him, mostly about his brilliant mind, which is something many professions -such as doctors, linguists, professors, royal advisers etc- value, if not require. That makes him a target for anyone that loves their profession, and wants their area of expertise expanded.
Athanasios was persuaded by this mysterious woman, and was taken, soon to be trained about the basics of politics, diplomatic relations, the law and a more general study field which would expand his perspective, and let him know of what the world has to offer. That journey however didn’t last too long, for general knowledge was too simple for him to memorize, and everything went way faster than anticipated. He was, however, extremely tired, for he didn’t like these subjects, so he had pushed himself to finish quickly and be back home.
Athanasios woke up. It was already morning, and he needed to prepare. Today was the day he was going to return home. He had learnt everything he could from this place, and he was glad he finally gets to have a break. There were no plans that he knew about as of yet about his future, so he had already started thinking in the disorganized mess he called his “thought process” about what he was going to do whilst at home… almost there he thought. its already been 4 hours and the speed we’re going has been a stable 15 me’s every second, so unless I did my trigonometry math wrong, the house should be visible right about.. no- his thought was interrupted by the woman’s deep feminine voice we’re here. Athanasios looks around, and his house is still not visible, but he can recognize some buildings. it seems like I overestimated the curves.. ah that must be it, the speed changes every time we’re not in a straight line.. next time I’ll nail it.. he kept thinking, with some words escaping his mouth, as a silent and unrecognizable mix of sound. Are you lost in your thoughts so much you didn’t hear me again? she said in an almost commanding tone, demanding a response. Athanasios instantly stopped mumbling and said n- no! I heard you Charity. he said, almost scrambling for words. Charity.. her personality and name dont match at all he thought. As they were nearing the house, Athanasios looked around, taking in the scenery. The view was extraordinary as usual. He couldn’t help but observe sea life infested ocean. He wasn’t very interested in technology yet, and preferred a more nature focused landscape… When they were almost at the front door, his mother opened it, and.. she had golden hair? "Uhhh.. Mom?" he said, confused. She was wearing bright yellow and orange clothes, and she seemed like she wasn’t her usual self. The woman laughed, and she fully opened the door, to reveal his parents behind it. "Surprise!" they said, and he was confused for a second, but then realized its not his mother. "So who are you?" He said raising an eyebrow towards the woman looking like his mother. "Im your aunt, cant you recognize the family traits?" she said with a friendly smile and a glint in her eyes. […] Almost everyone had finished their plate. There was mostly silence, apart from the sounds of plates, spoons and forks colliding, glasses of water being gulped down, and an awkwardness after family introductions. At last, Athanasios asked "So how come you never talked to me about her, mom? And why is aunt here all of a sudden? Isn’t it hard to enter a different capital?" he paused for a second, but that second felt more like a minute to him, if it wasn’t for all the calculations and theories in his mind, running like constant simulations of the world, "Don’t tell me its because I’m done with Charity’s tutoring.. Do you really expect me to just leave before I even came back? What can she teach me anyways?" He said in a very upset and sarcastic tone, not because he doubts he can learn something, but rather because he wanted to see how she would respond to his taunts, and what she could teach him. His aunt, Solidare, looked at him for a second, and then simply smiled and said "Your words do not match your thoughts, child, but okay, if that’s how you want it to be, I accept your challenge." She stood up, and walked to the door, where she looked at Athanasios and said with a half kind half wicked smile in her face, "So, aren’t you going to open the door for me like a polite and well behaved man would do?" never letting her smile disappear from her face. Athanasios was skeptical for a moment, something about this isnt right.. he thought but stood up, and walked towards the door. He extended his hand but before touching the pommel, his hand stopped. There was resistance. Confused, he looked for what was blocking him, but found nothing, so he tried again, but to no avail. He could not touch the door handle. It felt like there was a strong magnet pushing his hand away. Even more confused now, and before he was able to analyze the situation, Solidare had opened the door, and with sarcasm dripping like poison from her mouth, she said my my, you cant even open a door? And you’re supposed to be some genius or something? I highly doubt it. Athanasios more upset than confused now, not able to figure out what had transpired, but even more so at Solidaire. This is impossible, i am not a magnet, and this handle is not even metallic. And whats up with her sarcasm, and i thought mom could be extremely negative.. As he was trying to think, a voice sounded in his head. It was his aunt’s voice, saying You might be smart, but you barely know what this world is capable of. Do not mistaken your position, even if you tried for a millennia, you wouldn’t learn everything there is, for there is always something new to be discovered or invented. And i am NOT scary. That last part echoed in his mind like he was in a cave. She then raised a hand in the air pointing at Athanasios, which was now floating in the air, being pushed from underneath him the same way he felt when he tried to open the door. He was flabbergasted, and he didn’t know what to think or believe anymore. Was it some new tech that she had equipped? Was it something else? Answers, and even questions escaped him. That is, until she said, have you ever heard of the legend of the first Seraphim?…
A couple of years passed, and Athanasios had become a lot more mature and dependable. Even though he still wasn’t very serious, he could distinguish when to act formally, and when formalities were unnecessary. He had traveled with Solidare, his aunt living in Vrondi and had been personally tutored for a long time already. Solidare was a small-time researcher. She had access to a lot of libraries, most of them about technology and science, but there were also books about royalty, the different nations, what each of them offered and was known for, and more specifically, their bloodline traits. Usually, the research team wouldn’t let anyone freely use them, but the thought of breeding a genius that already knew about Tearia’s technology was too sweet of a chance for them to be picky as a small-time research team. Or at least that’s what Solidare used as an argument to persuade the rest of them. On top of that, she had made sure that Athanasios could control his thoughts, so others with the ability to tap into them wouldn’t be able to easily figure out things about him. Not that it was easy, with his “thought process” of a mess that she always complained about. Can you tone down your thoughts, i cant SLEEP! she used to shout in his mind, every time Athanasios had borrowed books from the libraries, and wasn't tired enough to go to sleep, which was practically every night. After all these years, she’d think he would have gotten better at organizing his thoughts, but on the contrary, it had gotten even more hectic and confusing than the first time she saw him.
Since then, Athanasios has shown an even greater interest in more than just the world's latest inventions and technologies, and all the different professions that applied them, but also all the bloodline abilities, and, in a lower degree, spellcasting data he could get his hands on. He had already started coming up with uses and applications of every bloodline ability, all on his own. It took him years to master all this knowledge, and his journey hadn’t even started yet, but the next step for him was to master his own blood. Unfortunately, he hadn’t shown any Sol, Seraphim, or Lassa bloodline abilities and traits, other than his appearance. His next hurdle was to figure out how to activate his bloodline abilities, and how to use them effectively, so he did the only logical thing he could think of, he asked Solidare to help, for he knew she could tap into her abilities, and one of them was a mental link, which would help with understanding what he may have been doing wrong.
After a lot of head scratching, and book reading, they were able to figure out that the reason he couldn’t tap into his bloodline abilities, was because he was hyperactive, through a combination of failed attempts at his parents’ bloodline abilities, his physical appearance, and research on the element of water, they had a theory that his bloodline percentage was probably very high, if not a pure Lassa, which was an improbability based on his mother’s Sol and Lassa, and father’s Seraphim and lassa. Finally, after a lot of time he managed to activate his powers. And so, to make them effective and efficient, the training had begun.
In the following years, he combined training with studying, in more ways than one. Sometimes, he would try and hold the book he was reading, using his gravity powers, and some other times, he would try and recreate things he studied using water, like the lens of glasses, to either create a magnifying effect, or enable him to increase his field of view, by changing how the light was being focused in the manipulated water through following the instructions of creating concave and convex lenses, by changing the water’s shape accordingly. He was never particularly good with physical activities, but he felt like endurance was a necessary trait for everyone.
Athanasios in the next few years managed to come up with and master a wide variety of skills, some simple, some difficult, but all of them useful. His focus was on the inner workings of the world and the limits of it, and the maximization of an ability’s efficiency and capabilities. For that, he would push himself to the extreme, often times collapsing of tiredness. His training while studying pushed him to the limits, and many times knocked him out unconscious and sent in the doctors and physicians of the research team. And although this took its toll on him, it also allowed him to reach heights that were throught to be out of reach. He never ran out of willpower when whatever it was could positively influence him and his goals.
By the end of his studies, he had increased his physical and mental capabilities, and learnt a ton. Because physical capacity was weaker, he specialized in long and mid rage ability usage, but without meaning that he wouldn't engage in hand to hand combat if he thought it was necessary. He had studied how weapons worked, from the old-fashioned bow and arrow and sword, and to a small degree, martial arts, to the modern guns of Fotia and Tearia, and decided to focus on area of effect, precision, extremely long ranges, and power. One of his most demanding training “courses” was lifting a massive boulder up in a small mountain whilst using his liquid glasses to read a book from 10 meters away.
On top of that, he had attended many business trips of his aunt’s, and learnt more about the world. That knowledge and experience helped him, for at that age he had finally decided on his goal, which was to become a powerful individual, with as many connections as he could, and shape the world with his intellect. Although his wish wasn’t to wage wars and create chaos, but rather a peaceful and united world, enhanced by the power of science and soul, he knew some sacrifices would have to be made, probably damaging his morals in the process, if he was going to achieve his dream.
Finished with Vrondi and now an adult, he planned to return back to his birthplace. He had reached his limits once again and it was time to find the next bedrock breaker, and this time, he didn’t need someone to come to him, for he knew where to find it himself.
Now at the Tide town, he was already running his simulations on how this would go. His chaotic mind never got bored of making up questions and answering them by itself, then repeating the process multiple times over with slight changes. Many called him paranoid, and others insane, but he definitely wasn’t a fool, thinking he’d get in easily. This was The Magoi after all. A spellcasting society wouldn’t be easily impressed. Smarts wasn’t the way either. What he needed to do, was impress him with his abilities, and unlike his intellect, which was there when he was born, bloodline powers didn’t come easy to hi, and neither did spellcasting. He earned the right to use his inheritance, his bloodline with his own skill, determination, and ability, and spellcasting was the same.
Im here at last he thought. His true abilities would finally be recognized. His hard work would not be wasted. He entered the faction’s grounds. Someone approached him, and escorted him to a room inside. There were a couple of elders there, and the display would begin shortly. *You may show us what you are capable of* one of the elders said, and a spellcaster of each bloodline appeared in front of him, all wearing black featureless masks, with their bloodline carved as a symbol on them. "You will be taking them all on your own. Show us your skills, and do not kill anyone.." and with those words, a bell sounded. It was go-time. The Tyro attacked first, charging in with absolute confidence in his footing. You really underestimate me he thought, and with a wave of his hand, the charging Tyro was sent flying to the wall, where he crashed and fell unconscious, with blood trickling down his hand. The masked men however didn’t react or show any emotion, but had now circled him. The Seraphim, sol and Lassa are in front of me, which leaves the Oro, Nayu and Dragon behind me. Interesting strategy, but it wont work. He smiled. Discretely, he conjured water in one of his eyes, and used it as a scrying mirror. Now he could see the battlegrounds from above with one eye, and in front of him with the other. As he thought, the Dragon and Oro were approaching. With his bloodline, he created a sphere of multiplied gravity. Then, he made a circle with 2 fingers, and started blowing through it, making colorful bubbles towards the 3 in front of him. The Seraphim’s reactions were exceptional and he avoided his attack, flying to the air to avoid them, but the bubbles enveloped the other 2 and, in mere seconds, a lot happened. The sol had put up a forcefield inches away from himself, which blocked the bubble from touching him, and it fell to the ground, popping in an electrifying buzz. The Lassa however, due to his immobility on land was hit by 2 bubbles, immobilizing him slightly. Meanwhile, the Oro and the dragon saw this as an opening for an attack, but quickly found themselves to the ground immobilized by his gravity sphere. *1st second.. Seraphim, Sol, and Nayu. 2nd second… Nayu = light, seraphim = water shock, 3rd second… sol has forcefield, leave for last. 4th second.. this is it.* That is all the sol could deduct before his thoughts ceased. Athanasios went to the offensive and turned to the Nayu. "1st second" He conjured water in his fist, seemingly going for a head on attack. The Nayu disappeared, good.. he smiled, and turned to the Seraphim, and hurled all the water from his fist, then blew a single, slow moving bubble at the ground beneath the airborne Seraphim. here he comes. "2nd second" He turned to punch the ground, and mist spread in the entire battleground. The Nayu appeared inside the fog. The Seraphim dodged the hurled water by diving down. The fog was almost upon it. "3rd second" The sol watched as the fog enveloped the Seraphim, and himself, and quickly after, pain. "4th second" the bubble popped and electrified the fog, which charged the entirety of the ring through the water droplets, and coursing through them, hit everyone, excluding the unconscious Tyro. Then, he raised his hand once more, and the fog split horizontally, half falling down to the ground, along everyone in it but Athanasios, and the other half towards the air. "this is it." he said and raised a hand. The Sol and the Seraphim were down, but not unconscious. They could barely move their heads. The gravity was too strong. The water from the fog, and the water he hurled earlier towards the Seraphim, started gathering in the sky, diligently shaped, and created a giant magnifying glass lens pointing at the Nayu. The water around it started to dissipate, turned to steam from the intensity of the focused sun beam created by the magnifying water lens, which worked like a spotlight, both blinding him and heating him up to the point of boiling water. Then, athanasios sat down. "I believe that would be all." he said, with no emotion in his voice. He then stood up, and went to the elders. "Was that satisfactory?" He waited for a response. One of the elders stood and said "Those were only 2 spells. Am I to assume that this is all?" . . . Athanasios, which felt a little annoyed by the tone of his comment, simply walked towards a tree in the battlefield. He held out his palm, and in the blink of an eye, a portion of the tree was gone, and with water on the ground. It just appeared there. Right after that, he points a finger to the tree and something golden forms in the tip of his finger, and shot to the trunk, where it buried itself in the center of it in the blink of an eye, with debris flying through the air from the force of the impact, some of it straight towards Athanasios’ head, but were repelled right before touching him. "Would that be satisfactory enough?" He asked, this time with a hint of impatience in his voice. The elders look at each other and without hesitation, the one standing sits down and announces "You are officially a member of The Magoi. Congratulations." He puts his hand on his pocket, and takes out a ring. It had an aquamarine gem with a lightning bolt carved on it, the symbol of The Magoi. "Glad to hear it." he said, before he fell to the ground unconscious from all the mental and physical strain from pushing himself too far. When he woke up, he was in a room that vaguely depicted an infirmary. "Judging from how far I pushed myself, I have been out for probably a day, maybe two" he mumbled to himself, and the healer in the room whom he did not notice before said "A day or two is an understatement. You’ve been like this for half a week." he told him in an admonishing tone. "But I wouldn’t blame you. You made an extraordinary first impression, the entire guild has been booming with activity, talking about what happened." he paused for a moment, then said in a more casual tone "I would suggest, before pushing yourself that hard, you should figure out a way to heal any strain. As a Lassa you should be a natural." but before he completed that sentence, athanasios was already standing up and stretching. The healer sighed, "I’ll report that you are up and running" and with those words, he left the room.
Now a member of The Magoi, he was even more determined and fired up. But this was no time to celebrate. He might of earned his spot in the faction, but that was just a single step towards his goal, to his vision. He would have to get even stronger than ever before. He couldn’t waver now, and let everything go to waste. He decided at that moment, that he would master all the knowledge this faction could offer, and more. But to do that, he needed anonymity. He knew that the shadows were full of ears and sharpened knives. So he came up with an idea..
His old self.. his old self would continue to be a researcher, a scholar. Athanasios was not accepted in The Magoi, and disappointed, he continued searching for new inventions and discoveries alone, angry towards the world that did not accept him, for wasting his precious time. He would start searching for the ultimate discovery to show them all what it means to be a genius, and would eventually be killed by his own madness, in a suicidal mission to the edge of the world. That is what Athanasios, the old him will do.
And as for him.. the new him.. well, he is Athan of course, only known as just a recruit of The Magoi used as an errand boy, usually a messenger, and not worth anyone’s time. But in reality, he is working towards a greater goal, to unite the nations, no matter what comes his way. He knows the peaceful route wont work when assassins are able to run freely, and he knows there is no way slavers would peacefully agree to his “childish” dream of peace, and let the Seraphim be independent. And for that, he needed power. The Magoi will be the gateway to everything, and so Athan’s story has only begun..
The following years passed like a flash. He was extremely busy all the times, and always pushing his limits further. Through researching the secrets of the guild, he was able to refine his skills and spells, as well as create more complex ones. He also learned new skills, and maximized their efficiency. Healing was one of those skills. The first year into the guild, he took on the role of the guild’s messenger, but he wasn’t afraid to use other professions he was familiar with as a cover to reach places and people he couldn’t as a messenger. He also changed the way he trained, by adding another thing in his list, healing. At all times, he was infusing a steady flow of energy towards healing, with the water he has in his body, both outside and inside. No matter what the did, he kept that flow, with the only exception being when sleeping. He also started swimming daily, because it was the best sport to train his body to endure, but also in search of some lost or forgotten artifact or magical item, but he never did. Over the course of his time in The Magoi, he doubled his power and endurance honed and perfected his skills, and took on dangerous missions that led him to every corner of the world, and allowing him to observe a wide variety of things, from abilities, to personalities, to beliefs, to how each nation worked.
At his 50s, he decided it was time for him to put his plans in motion. It was time to start influencing the world around him. Where will his travels bring him next?
