Experience: Arten had always been fascinated by the architecture of the homes in his birthplace of Sunfire, and had expressed such from a young age. While admiring the work of the local mason, the man asked if the young lad would like to learn how it was done. With a fervent yes, Arten begged the man to take him on as apprentice. Smiling at the young boy’s enthusiasm, the position was offered, accepted, and within the afternoon, solidified.
As his teenaged years approached, things were largely peaceful in his home, and as boys are want to do, he became restless. Though he found joy in his work, and enjoyed spending time with his friends, he wanted something more. One evening, while complaining to his master about this, the man suggested he take up fencing, even if just as a hobby. “Sometimes, there’s nothing to cool a young man’s blood,” He mused, “and all that can be done to help that sense of restlessness is to focus it. Temper it, as our blacksmith would put it. It’s why I myself took up the sword.” He said with a grin.
And so his master arranged for lessons, lending Arten his old sword for the task. It took some time for him to become comfortable holding the weapon, and even still his movements are stiffer than he’d like, much to his teacher’s chagrin, but he has remained dutiful in his practice.
Arten learned from a young age that people are not what they say, but what they do. One of his friends had been having issues with a ruffian harassing her routinely. Rather than talk her through what she may do to dissuade his harrying, Arten took maters into his own hands, cornering the bully and demanding he cease his bothering of those close to him, and if he did not that there were other methods of ‘diplomacy’ that he was willing to employ.
Motivation: Due to his youth, Arten is unsure what he really wants from life. He’s recently found himself feeling wanderlust, which his master and fencing instructor both encourage him to explore, hoping that leaving Sunfire for awhile would inspire him in both his work and swordplay.
Extra Info: Despite his cold demeanor, he cares incredibly deeply about the people around him, as well as the town he grew up in. Once he’s angered, his rage burns deep and hot, and little will prevent him from fixing (or breaking) whatever incensed him.
Items:
Master’s Rapier (Steel): A well maintained sword. Lacking in filigree or other flashy decorations you might see on other blades, it is a perfectly serviceable weapon in the right hands.
Ring of Minor Constitution (Fire): A ring gifted to Arten by his childhood friend Lena, as a thank you for protecting her from local hooligans. It bestows a small amount of additional stamina, allowing Arten to push himself slightly longer before becoming worn out. (+10 to overall stamina when worn.)
